Caring for gold and diamond jewellery

Five habits keep your jewellery looking showroom-new for decades.

• Last on, first off — perfume, hairspray and sweat dull gold; wear jewellery after getting ready.
• Store separately — each piece in its own soft pouch; diamonds scratch gold.
• Wash gently — lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft brush; pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners for stone-set pieces.
• Check settings yearly — bring your pieces in; prong-checks and professional polishing are complimentary for Aurora customers.
• Insure the big pieces — we provide valuation certificates for insurance on request.
